This year's Prognosfruit conference, which takes place in the Turkish capital, Istanbul, on 6-8 August, will include a debate on topfruit sustainability initiatives and corporate social responsibility, according to a press release from WAPA, the World Apple and Pear Association.
Delegates will hear from Philippe Appeltans, director of VBT (the association of Belgian horticultural co-operatives), about the lessons learnt from the country's Responsibly Fresh initiative.
There will equally be a presentation about the experience gained by the Fruit Juice CSR Platform, a business-driven sustainability initiative specifically established for the fruit juice industry, co-initiated by the European Fruit Juice Association (AIJN) and endorsed and co-funded by the European Commission.
Jan Hermans, secretary general of AIJN, commented: “The European fruit juice industry, represented by AIJN, is committed to taking on the responsibility for ensuring that its global supply chain positively impacts society and the environment as a whole.'
