In Germany, Port International has announced that it is expanding its Exclusive Partner Programme to include its long-standing Spanish supplier Agromartín.

Agromartín, based in Huelva, grows strawberries and stonefruit and exclusively produces the Candela strawberry variety and the Early Super Sweet nectarine variety for Port.

”Our partnership with Agromartín is unique,” said Philippe Peiró, managing director of Port International European. ”We work closely with a company that combines the highest quality standards with sustainable and innovative cultivation methods.

”The Candela strawberry is the result of an exclusive collaboration – a variety known for its exceptional flavour, pleasant strong fragrance, and long shelf-life.”

Agromartín cultivates around 108ha of strawberries and 253ha of stonefruit, utilising its geographical location near the border with Portugal.

“The Candela strawberry, developed in our own research and development department, starts its season as early as December, significantly extending the availability of strawberries,” explained Victoria Martín, head of marketing at Agromartín.

The group said that it placed ”great importance” on the well-being of its workers, establishing accommodation for its employees, resembling a small village.

“We are committed to creating an environment where our employees can thrive both professionally and personally. Through intercultural exchange and mutual respect, we foster a harmonious coexistence and strengthen team cohesion,” Martín outlined.

In addition to social responsibility, Agromartín said it was committed to sustainable production methods, including the use of drip irrigation, biological pest control, and the installation of solar panels to reduce CO₂ emissions.

For European retail, the exclusive collaboration between Port International and Agromartín offered a “clear competitive advantage”, the groups noted, with consumers able to count on ”consistently high quality, sustainable production, and fruits with exceptional taste”.

“Supermarkets benefit from our high standards for quality and taste,” said Agromartín’s Jose Antonio Martín.

”Our products are the result of passionate work and innovative technologies that meet consumers’ expectations.”
