Apple marketer Pink Lady Europe has announced encouraging results for the second half of the season, with volumes sold up 10 per cent from last year after 11 weeks of sales and up 39 per cent from two years ago.
According to the company, the principal European export markets are on the rise, with top market Germany up by 18 per cent, Denmark by 44 per cent, the Netherlands by 21 per cent, Portugal by 32 per cent, Russia by 18 per cent, Spain by 36 per cent and Austria by 58 per cent.
The company attributes such results to the 'remarkable' harvesting quality, the implementation of new promotional tools and the impact of the brand's TV campaign.
To mark the Valentine's Day period, Pink Lady will be launching a new European TV campaign on 1-14 February, aiming to make over 230m contacts.
An online competition will also be launched on 18 January entitled 'Your Most Beautiful Declaration of Love'.
The game will ask visitors to send in their most heart-felt declarations of love for the chance to win one of various prizes, including a romantic trip for two to Paris, iPads and DVD players.
