Between January and March this year, organic exports from Peru increased by 48.3 per cent compared with the year-earlier period.
The results came from Peruvian promotional agency PromPerú, which revealed that in this period organic exports grew to some US$46m.
The number one organic product in the country is the banana, with organic mangoes also being exported to New Zealand.
In the first quarter of 2011, exports of organic bananas rose by 17.9 per cent to US$17m, with the main markets being the US, Belgium and Germany.
In 2010, Peru exported some US$213m of organic products.
