Six Peruvian citrus exporters have signed up for a pilot programme to test a new Quality Seal for Peruvian Minneolas for the 2014 season. The initiative, organised by Peruvian citrus grower association ProCitrus, will see fruit destined for international markets stamped with the “Quality certified for export” seal.
The six companies involved in the trial – La Calera, Coexa, CPF, Torre Blanca, Huamani and Casa Chica – together account for 73 per cent of Peru’s Minneola export volume. They all have the most rigorous certifications for the operations, including GlobalGAP, Tesco, BRC and HACCP.
“The Quality Seal will provide a guarantee to our major customers and the most demanding supermarkets of the world, of the internal quality of Peruvian Minneolas,” said Eugenio Oliveira of CPF.
“We are very excited about this new project led by Procitrus, which not only generate a great responsibility for us as exporters but also for importers and buyers from supermarkets, which will have to require fruit with the Quality Seal with the goal of adequately satisfy their consumers.”
