A new company focusing on organic citrus, named Ecomer, has been launched this month as a result of the close cooperation between a number of organic fruit growers.

Focusing on Spanish, North African and overseas organic citrus, the company, which will draw its production from 18 associated growers, said it hoped to become the number one specialist in this field across Europe.

Ecomer’s owner and director, Jose Antonio Jimenez, said in a statement that he believed there were many opportunities for development for the company that could be taken.

“Even though there are a lot of excellent organic growers in Spain and further afield, the sale of these products is very much fragmented and conducted by exporters whose focus is mainly on other products,” he said. “We believe that these growers, as well as the end clients, should benefit from an organic specialist who can offer the attention and focus they deserve.”

Mr Jimenez is a former advisor to the Bio Dynamic Agricultural Society (Demeter) in Spain and also worked as a sales manager for numerous growers in Spain, North Africa and the Southern Hemisphere.

The company is situated in Velez Blanco near Murcia and has a packing and logistics facility in the south of Spain, as well as in Perpignan, France.
