The Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA) has revealed the launch of 'The Garden at New Covent Garden Market', a new identity for the UK-based New Covent Garden Market that will be introduced when redevelopment work is completed.
As a name widely used by tenants and suppliers within the trade, 'The Garden' will incorporate the full range of market facilities in addition to food and flower related activities, becoming a destination in its own right.
In addition, the name could cover business support activities, a business centre, cafés and restaurants, education facilities, training rooms, a demonstration kitchen and other similar uses, depending on agreements with a future private development partner.
'The new identity shows the scale of our ambition. We will provide modern new market facilities for our traders and customers alike, but we can do more than this,' said Jan Lloyd, chief executive officer of the CGMA. 'The Garden at New Covent Garden Market can play host to a wide range of complementary activities which would add value to the market and benefit our tenants' businesses. Over time, The Garden will become a destination in its own right and a preferred location for food-related activities in London.'
New Covent Garden Market is the largest fresh produce market in the UK, with an annual turnover of £602m.
