The Greenery has announced that seven new companies have been awarded the Nature Counts sustainability label, in recognition of their pioneering efforts in a number of different sustainable operations.
According to the Dutch group, Mts Boon, Pater Broersen, Duijvenstijn, Themato, Anton van Wijk, Mts Meuzelaar and Wim van Dijk have been recognised for distinguishing themselves in the areas of energy consumption, CO2 emissions, water management, the reduction of crop protection agents and employee care.
Ten companies have now been handed the Nature Counts label following its launch last year, with the initiative designed to highlight those growers that are leading the way in the area of sustainability.
'The initiative is garnering a reputation in the sector and ever more growers are incorporating sustainability into their operations,' the group noted. 'Customers of The Greenery have also expressed an interest in the initiative and are looking at ways of integrating it into their own sustainable range of products.'
Candidates can apply for the Nature Counts label twice a year, with applications assessed by a jury of experts who must score companies 'exceptionally well' on one of the key themes, and 'well' on the others.
