Murcia is being promoted as a quality tourism destination

Fruit and vegetable producers in Murcia have linked up with representatives of the region’s tourism industry to study the possibility carrying out joint promotional activities. One of the proposals being explored is incorporating tourism marketing on labels of fresh produce bound for export markets.

Juan Marín, president of exporter federation Proexport held a meeting with Murcia’s counsellor for industry, tourism, business and innovation, Juan Carlos Ruiz on Monday to explore ways of using the region’s fresh produce exports as a way of promoting tourism.

“Every day our products reach the kitchens of millions of European consumers, so we believe there is an opportunity for collaboration to raise the profile of the region of Murcia in other countries,” Marín said after the meeting.

Highlighting the importance of public-private cooperation, Ruiz said the agreement would explore ways of finding synergies linking Murcia’s high quality produce with the region’s reputation as a leading tourist destination.

Murcia exported more than 11.8m tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables in 2013 worth more than €2bn.
