Avocado grower-marketer Mission Produce has revealed that is creating a new marketing programme to shake things up on Black Friday this year by 'turning it green', an 'after Thanksgiving' campaign dubbed #GreenFriday.
This campaign is described by Mission as a comprehensive social media and retail programme designed to promote the usage of avocados in Thanksgiving leftover meals.
Over the past two years, US shoppers have increasingly consumed avocados the week following Thanksgiving, according to Mission.
“We have noticed that Americans are eating more avocados during this time frame and Mission Produce’s retail partners have profited from it,” stated senior director of business development, Patrick Cortes. “Due to an ample supply of avocados and the opportunity to push a hot item, retailers experienced a 30 per cent lift by promoting avocados after Thanksgiving.”
Mission has paired up with social media influencer @TheModernProper to help bring excitement to the post-Thanksgiving programme. @TheModernProper created four unique recipes and will post them on social media on #GreenFriday.
All of these recipes incorporate Thanksgiving leftovers and emphasise avocados as the feature ingredient. Mission Produce will also share the recipes on all of its social media channels throughout #GreenFriday and the week subsequent Thanksgiving.
“After a long day of Black Friday shopping, I am looking forward to #GreenFriday,' said director of marketing, Denise Junqueiro. 'What better way to end the day than with turkey taquitos paired with avocado crema?”
