Oxnard-based Mission Produce has promoted Megan Rood to organic category manager. She will be responsible for managing key account relationships, working with emerging sources of organic supply, and developing new organic customers.
Rood has been with Mission Produce for seven years, most recently as account manager handling key retail accounts, as well as being the lead director on organic sourcing and sales.
According to Patrick Cortes, Mission’s director of sales, Rood’s expanded position shows the importance of the organic category for the company.
“Mission Produce is putting much more effort into expanding the organic category. We feel that the timing is right to develop additional avenues for organic avocados with new and existing customers. Megan has shown tremendous growth over the years and continues to play a key role in our organic and conventional business development. Megan is the perfect fit for this new position at Mission Produce.”
Rood said she was excited to be taking on the new role. “Mission’s organic business is growing, and we see a tremendous upside in taking a leadership position in supplying more organic avocados in the industry,” she stated.
“Based on our supplies from California, Mexico and Peru, Mission will be able to help drive the category by managing year-round supplies and bringing more consistency to the organic avocado business.”
In addition to providing organic avocados, Mission is a major global supplier of conventional avocados from California, Mexico, Peru, Chile and New Zealand. The company recently opened new state-of-the-art packing facilities in Oxnard, California and Chao, Peru.
The company also has operations in Mexico, Chile, Canada, The Netherlands and China, as well as nine value-added ripe centres across North America.
