Michael Huber has been appointed as managing director of Bio Austria, the association of Austrian organic producers.
A qualified social economist, Huber has held a number of management positions, including Linz-based steel company Voestalpine and, most recently, Austrian paper manufacturer Delfortgroup.
In a statement, Huber said he would work to develop organic farming in the central European country.
'Sustainability and the careful, responsible use of resources are among my personal concerns,' he said.
'I appreciate and agree with the ideas and values of Austrian organic producers and so I am pleased to have been entrusted with managing the association and to be able to contribute to the development of organic farming.'
His appointment was welcomed by Bio Austria chairman Rudi Vierbauch.
'I am delighted to have secured an experienced individual like Michael Huber to manage our organisation,' commented Vierbauch.
'His business expertise and his experience of international management and networking make him the ideal person for this varied and important role.'
