IFCO has announced that it has signed a new long-term agreement with leading Slovenian retailer Mercator to become its reusable packaging service provider for fruit and vegetables.
Alenka Krafogel, director category management fruit and vegetables market programme at the retailer, noted that IFCO's green credentials had helped to seal the deal.
'The environmentally friendly packaging system of IFCO enables Mercator to achieve cost savings and efficiency improvements over the entire supply chain,' she explained. 'Particularly, IFCO's strong engagement in the CEE region as well as their comprehensive European network has convinced us.'
Karl Pohler, CEO of IFCO, said that he was pleased Mercator had selected his group as its RPC service provider.
'This commitment affirms our decision to expand in CEE markets and simultaneously it motivates us to strengthen our activities further on,' he said. 'With six subsidiaries in CEE, we are the leading supplier in this promising region.'
