In a bid to meet retailer demand Mastronardi Produce/Sunset is yet again ramping up production of its One Sweet tomato for summer 2010 after already expanding planted area by more than 300 per cent over the previous year.
“The overall response and enthusiasm surrounding One Sweet has been tremendous, it’s a must have item,” commented president Paul Mastronardi in a press release.
Mastronardi’s Sunset-branded One Sweet tomato is a cherry tomato with exceptional flavour and sweetness that is like no other.
“Kids and parents alike love this tomato, it’s so sweet you would think it was candy,” added Mr Mastronardi. “I have yet to taste a tomato that is as sweet as One Sweet.”
Packed in a dry pint format in a unique and exclusive bowl clamshell, Mastronardi has also been receiving requests from the foodservice industry to provide product in larger bulk formats for restaurants to use in salads and other unique dishes and recipes.
“Consumers have been bombarding us with emails complimenting our One Sweet tomato,” explained Chris Veillon, director of marketing.
Now in its second year of production, One Sweet is already pacing ahead of what the Campari tomato achieved when Mastronardi introduced the international phenomenon in 1995.
To this day, Campari cocktail tomatoes remain the most internationally recognised tomato in the market.
“To help educate consumers on the various uses for the One Sweet tomato beyond a quick and easy snack, our Celebrity Chef Kathy Casey created a variety of new recipes to capture the true flavour of this unique variety,” added Ms Veillon.
