As part of French apple association Le Crunch's campaign to promote French apples in the UK, interprofessional organisation Interfel and the ANPP (National Association of Apples and Pears) launched a competition in conjunction with The Co-operative and 5,000 UK primary schools.
The promotion offered pupils the opportunity to win one of 10 Apple iPod Touch players, as well as an Apple iMac for their school.
The goal of the partnership was to highlight Le Crunch’s commitment to supporting healthy eating amongst UK children whilst working with one of the UK’sleading “local” retailers.
To take part, entrants had to visit a local Co-operative store and pick up a promotional pack of Le Crunch apples and then provide their details on the promotional website, www.ouitolecrunch.co.uk.
The promotional campaign, for varieties such as Golden Delicious, Braeburn, Gala and Granny Smith Reds, included offering lesson plan ideas and health information about apples at UK schools, in addition to sales materials in-store.
Daniel Corbel, co-president of Interfel's external market commission, commented: “The promotion received 4,449 entries from across the UK, which is proof that our healthy eating message is getting through, and that we are achieving our main objective of increasing visibility and sales of Le Crunch apples in the UK. In addition, working with The Co-operative proved invaluable to the campaign as it allowed us to further expand our reach due to the large number of stores they have nationwide.”
