Zespri Green kiwifruit has been showcased as a tasty cocktail ingredient at the recent five-day Tales of the Cocktail celebration of history and the artistry of making drinks.
During the event, some of the freshest drinks were sampled at the “Cocktail Fresh Market” event where Zespri was a sponsor, according to a company press release.
One of the cocktail community’s brightest stars used Zespri Green kiwifruit to concoct one of the fresh fruit cocktails at this year’s celebration.
“Toasting an American beverage tradition, Chicago bartender, mixologist and blogger Todd Appel gave his refreshing Auckland Summer Punch a New Zealand spin,” Zespri explained in the statement.
Mr Appel’s recipe, which showcases Zespri Green kiwifruit and Square One Cucumber Vodka also features Sauvignon Blanc white wine, dry sake and fresh lemon juice.
“For batching, Mr Appel juices kiwifruit to ensure an intense colour and to avoid crushing the seeds,” Zespri added. “He adjusts for the sweetness of the kiwifruit with simple syrup.”
With Zespri Green kiwifruit in good supply through October, event attendees were reminded that there is still plenty of time to offer Zespri kiwifruit drinks.
