European Flavors PMA Fresh Summit 2011

Italian fresh produce companies were out in force at this year's PMA Fresh Summit trade fair, which took place in the US city of Atlanta on 14-17 October.

Among those present were a number of commercial entities collaborating on trade marketing as part of the partly EU-funded European Flavors project, namely Apofruit Italia, Salvi Unacoa, Granfrutta Zani, Oranfrizer, Made in Blu and Alegra, which shared a joint stand.

With additional backing from the Italian government and fresh produce industry organisation CSO, the European Flavors stand drew the attention of Fresh Summit visitors to a range of Italian products and in particular their seasonality, taste and nutritional characteristics, quality and environmentally friendly attributes.

According to representatives from European Flavors, Italy's fresh produce sector is looklng to consolidate its trade links with the US market, above all for kiwifruit and citrus – especially the red-fleshed Sicilian oranges so often favoured by American consumers.

This year's PMA Fresh Summit confirmed its role as a major meeting point for the trade in North America, attracting more than 18,000 participants from 50 countries.
