Isap Satispack

Italian packaging specialist Isap has unveiled a new line of packaging made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (R-PET), marketed as Satispack.

According to the company, the range makes use of so-called 'second life' food-contact plastic and, as such offers one of the first fully recycled plastic packaging systems for food products and guarantees strict standards of hygiene and food safety.

The new plastic has been promoted independently by IPPR, the Institute for the Promotion of Recycled Plastic, which was established following the introduction of an EC regulation – overseen by the European Food Safety Authority – that allows recycled plastics to be used in items which will come into contact with food.

'The best results of using this plastic in terms of reducing the environmental impact are obtained by the Satispack range, where the base and the lid are made separately with sheets of differing density and colour, before being assembled using a joining and ultrasound system' explained a spokesperson for Isap.

'As well as combining shapes, colours and even different materials, and thereby meeting the modern needs of the market when it comes to product flexibility, this technique allows you to reduce the weight of the lid by 25 per cent, which, combined with a high percentage of R-PET, allows you to use less prime, virgin raw material.'

'In fact, you are able to use all of the production waste, with multiple environmental and economic benefits.'
