Dutch importer HillFresh has underlined the quality of its fresh melon supply by awarding a special certificate to Brazilian co-operative Grupo Real Fruta Brasil, recognising the supplier’s support for its in-house quality system for Galia melons.
The certificate was presented to Real Fruta’s quality control manager Antonio Carlos Nazaré and export manager Reriton Moura at Fruit Logistica 2015 in Berlin.
“The company has been recognised for the high rate of dedication which has resulted in the delivery of top quality melons for the development of the flavour model,” said a spokesperson for HillFresh.
The Barendrecht-based firm, which recently opened new import offices in France and Italy, has recently been working with specialists at the Wageningen University and Research Centre as well as and four seed breeding companies – Enza Zaden, Sakata, Monsanto and Nunhems – to develop what it describes as a Taste Matrix for melons.
This matrix, due to be introduced this summer, is based on an index of subjective, qualitative values including taste, texture and fragrance that have been compiled by an experienced panel.
It has been designed to allow the group to identify more effectively varieties that will be commercially successful and then fast-track their development.
As well as the Taste Matrix, HillFresh has also launched a new label, The Expert in Taste, which promises to guarantee a consistently beautiful product with superior quality and great taste throughout the year.
