G’s is planning to roll out its range of Spanish-grown organic produce further in France to take advantage of surging popularity.
The company’s Naturally Organic division, which has 290ha of organic land across three farms in Murcia, is set to grow with the addition of a new 35ha farm in Murcia on the back of increasing consumer demand for organic produce across Europe.
Currently much of Naturally Organic’s output is sold in the Dutch and Scandinavian markets, with Germany and Switzerland also taking significant volumes. But the company also sees potential for further growth in France, where it began supplying a wholesaler in Perpignan last year.
“There is huge potential in France,” says Elspeth Fowler, who works in the sales department at Naturally Organic. “Last year went very well and we are targeting more organic sales there, as well as other specialist organic chains across Europe.”
Its organic lines are predominantly sold through own label across Europe, but also appear under the Nice to Eat You brand.
Fowler also revealed that the company is trialling organic fruit for the first time with melons and watermelons. It is additionally running trials on spring onions and other onion lines as G’s underlines its commitment to increasing its fully organic offer. “It’s worth investing in the land,” says Fowler. “When you are buying new farms you want to prepare the land properly, so it’s a long-term plan.”
