Gourmet Trading has teamed up with Chilean blueberry supplier South Pacific Trading to offer US customers biodynamic blueberries.
Marketing manager Chloe Varennes said the company was pleased to offer its retail customers something new for their high-end environmentally conscious blueberry consumers.
“Biodynamic is a holistic approach to farming with a higher level of food safety and fewer pesticide residues than USDA certified organic items,” she said. “Over the season we have noticed that biodynamic blueberries also have a better quality and shelf-life compared to conventional blueberries.”
“South Pacific Trading is excited to reinforce the spirit of the protection and conservation of the planet by partnering with Gourmet Trading Company,” said Rodrigo Zegers of South Pacific Trading.
Developed by Rudolf Steiner, biodynamic agriculture is a method of organic farming that employs a holistic understanding of agricultural processes, treating soil fertility, plant growth and livestock care as ecologically interrelated tasks, emphasising the spiritual and mystical elements.
Proponents claim it is a cost effective, fully sustainable method of farming that produces high quality, nutrient dense crops.
