Globus

Globus hypermarkets have the best fresh fruit and vegetable departments in Germany. That is the verdict of German consumers in a survey carried out for Fruchthandel Magazine by consumer research company GfK.

Some 7,500 member households of the GfK Consumer Panel were asked to give retailers marks for the regular and reliable availability of a full range of fresh produce, the layout, attractiveness and cleanliness of the department, the availability of staff to give help and advice, and the availability of special items such as organic and convenience products.

In the final results, Globus, St Wendel came out on top with Edeka’s Edeka Center banner and the Tegut group in second and third places respectively.

Interestingly enough, Globus was not only the winner for fresh produce. The report clearly shows that an excellent fresh produce department is a key factor in determining the consumers’ impression of the entire retail outlet, with Globus also coming top of the league for consumers’ general impression of the store as a whole.

The fresh produce departments of the discount chains were not able to make such a good impact and landed well down the field. The two separate Netto banners came out best among the discounters with Lidl following on.

The German publication’s annual Fruchthandel Magazine Retail Award will be presented to Globus at the opening of Fruit Logistica during the 29th Fresh Produce Forum in Berlin.
