Globus

German hypermarket operator Globus is set to terminate its current food sourcing collaboration agreement with the country's largest retailer Edeka, the company has announced.

Effective from the start of 2012, the move will see Globus once again procure all of its products through the European sourcing alliance Markant.

In terms of its fresh produce sourcing activities, Markant operates subsidiaries including Zentrale Handelsgesellschaft in Germany as well as Valencia-based Iberiana Frucht, which sources fruit and vegetables from Spain and other parts of the Mediterranean.

'We always had good memories of working together with Markant and we are aware of their national and international capabilities,' commented Mark Buntz, food director at Globus.

The hypermarket group posted turnover of €6bn in 2010, operating stores not only in Germany but also in the Czech Republic and Russia.

Markant director Franz-Friedrich Müller added: 'We are extremely pleased that we have been able to win back a large, successful and independent family business like Globus.'
