'Fitness can be fun' – that’s the message being promoted by banana importers Fyffes with the launch of ‘Fit Squad’, the company's latest initiative aimed at promoting healthy eating and an active lifestyle, especially amongst young people.
Already trialled amongst pupils at De La Salle College in the company’s native Dundalk, Ireland, where the scheme was boosted by the presence of players from the successful Dundalk Football Club, the ‘Fit Squad’ project is now going nationwide with a schedule of events to be held in sports clubs and schools, both at primary and secondary level around the country.
“Devised with young people in mind, each ‘Fit Squad’ session lasts approximately one hour and will emphasise the fun that children can get by exercising with their pals,” said Fyffes' Emma Hunt-Duffy.
Carried out under the eye of teachers and coaches present, each event is delivered by Irish health and fitness expert, Tom Dalton.
Elements include an active workout plus talks and tips on healthy eating, all designed to improve children’s general fitness through engaging and fun-filled activities.
Schools and sports clubs interested in participating in the project are asked to visit www.fyffesfitsquad.ie
