Lychees and rambutans are back in season at Frieda's Specialty Produce in the US, with lychees beginning now and rambutan in late May.
Frieda’s is offering the products in bulk or protective clamshells to help with merchandising, shrink reduction and attracting shoppers.
“Despite their weird looks, both lychees and rambutan are quite delicate,' said Karen Caplan, president and CEO of Frieda’s Specialty Produce. 'Our clamshells help protect the fruits, extend the shelf life, and make them really easy to merchandise.
“Shoppers often confuse the lychee and the rambutan—they’re both red tropical fruits of roughly the same size and similar texture,' she continued. 'Our clamshells with bright, colourful labels reduce the confusion.
Sampling of these often-confused tropical fruits may also help increase basket rings,” Caplan added. “and they’re really easy to sample – just peel and enjoy!”
