In the US, Frieda's and Fresh Fruit Cuts have revealed that they are among the nominees for the 2013 PMA Impact Award, to be handed out at the upcoming PMA Fresh Summit in New Orleans.
The award recognises trend-setters that create and deliver bold new concepts for produce and floral packaging, with points awarded for excellence in marketing, sustainability, consumer convenience, food safety, and supply chain efficiency/functionality.
Frieda's has been recognised for its Specialty Lemon Bags for 1lb Seedless Lemons and Meyer Lemons, highlighting excellence in packaging.
“It is an honour to be among the PMA Impact Award finalists,” said Karen Caplan, Frieda’s president and CEO. “As these bags were designed with valuable input from our retail partners, being in the running for this year’s award is a testament to the spirit of collaboration.”
Meanwhile, Fresh Fruit Cuts' Woot Froot fresh-cut peaches and nectarines have been nominated despite only being available on the market for a matter of months.
“It has been a whirlwind of a year transitioning from R&D to becoming a commercial processor and seeing our products in market for the first time,' said Kim Gaarde, president of Fresh Fruit Cuts. 'This has been a labour of love and it’s exciting to see our products recognised by the industry for marketing excellence.'
