Company says the technology will help Peruvian avocado and lime exporters reach Europe and even the Far East with “unmatched level of freshness”

Fresh Inset has revealed that it has registered its Vidre+ sticker format solution on the Peruvian market, allowing the country’s avocado exporters to ”extend the freshness of their fruit and enable transport to more distant markets”.

According to the Poland-based group, Vidre+ safeguards fresh produce from the harmful effects of ethylene, thereby extending their freshness.

This technology is encapsulated in an easy-to-apply sticker, making it accessible to growers and producers, regardless of size, ultimately reducing food waste.

“Entering the Peruvian market is a significant step for Fresh Inset,” said Alfredo Malarin, Fresh Inset general manager Peru. ”We are confident that Vidre+ can assist Peruvian fresh produce growers, as it will enhance their ability to transport fruits over longer distances and reduce food waste.

”According to the trials on avocados, Vidre+ supports the retention of external fruit greenness and significantly improves firmness over time.

”In the case of limes, Vidre+ technology extends the shelf-life of limes,” he continued. “After eight days-long test on a simulated grocery shelf, 70 per cent of limes treated with Vidre+ stayed green, compared to only 28 per cent of untreated ones.

”Considering that Vidre+ is already available in Argentina, starting in Peru shows how important the LatAm market is for Fresh Inset.”

Both avocados and limes are ethylene-sensitive fruits, which means limited shelf-life and further constraints regarding export time and distance.

Fresh Inset noted that trials had proved Vidre+ could defend them from the negative effects of ethylene, slowing respiration and protecting quality over time.
