Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, the US retailer owned by UK giant Tesco, has announced that it is giving more than US$2.1m to local schools through its fifth-annual Shop for Schools programme.
Over 2,700 schools in Arizona, California and Nevada participated in the fundraising programme, which ran from 12 September to 31 December.
Fresh & Easy has also revealed that it will be bringing the program back again this fall to help even more schools raise much-needed money.
Since 2009, the retailer has given over US$6.1m to schools throughout Arizona, California and Nevada through the Shop for Schools programme.
'In a time when school budgets continue to be cut, we’re happy to donate over US$2.1m to help give students the education they deserve,' said John Burry, Fresh & Easy chief customer officer. 'Shop for Schools is much more than just a fundraising programme – it is a great way for us to directly help our neighbours, teachers and future leaders. We’re thrilled to be bringing the programme back in the new school year.'
