Organic fruit and vegetables are nearly 70 per cent dearer than conventional produce, according to a report by French association Familles Rurales, published today in daily La Croix.
The association shows that the average price of organic fruit is 69 per cent higher in France, at €5.54 per kilo, compared with €3.29 for conventional fruits.
Organic vegetables are, on average, 68 per cent more expensive, at €3.23 a kilo as opposed to €1.91 for the conventional equivalent.
Familles Rurales also discovered that conventional fruits were 11.1 per cent more expensive than this time last year. Vegetables were found to be 5.5 per cent dearer.
