Visitors to this year's Fruit Logistica in Berlin have made their voices heard by choosing Limeburst Fingerlimes as the winner of the prestigious Fruit Logistica Innovation Award (FLIA), beating off stiff competition from nine other nominees.
The Australia-based citrus fruit retains its juice in caviar-like vesicles, with the juice bursting free when chewed to produce a slightly acidic, lime-like taste, while the fruit is also visually attractive as a decorative ingredient in food preparation.
Although a traditional product, fingerlimes have only recently been developed for marketing on an international scale, and are targeted chiefly at the high-end restaurant and foodservice sector.
Limeburst Fingerlimes are available in four different varieties –Limeburst Green, Limeburst Burgundy, Limeburst Pink and Limeburst Black, offering a fruit caviar which is opaque, deep red, pinkand bright green respectively
'It has taken 15 years to get the product to this stage of development,' said James Boyd, director of Limeburst Australia, on receiving the award. 'The Innovation Award will help our company as the market continues to take root.'
Runners up for the award were Gasa Group's Jamie Oliver Grow Your Own Products range, and Prime Champ Sales' Almond Mushroom.
