UK-based sustainable food company Bart Spices has announced the launch of a new range of Fairtrade Organic herbs, making it the first major supplier to bring Fairtrade certified herbs to UK consumers.
The first four herbs, which will launch in Tesco, are basil, marjoram, thyme and mint in recyclable tubs, with an additional five (parsley, sage, fennel, seed, mace and rosemary) to follow in November.
'This is a very exciting launch for us, as it marks another first for Bart Spices as well as the herbs and spices category,' said David Callard, CEO at Bart Spices. 'This has only been possible because of our close working relationships with our growers and suppliers both of which are paramount to our work ethic.
'Equally, it is very rewarding to be able to give something back to these developing communities, be it education, equipment or resource,' he added.
Harriet Lamb, executive director for the Fairtrade Foundation, said: 'This is great news for the growers in Egypt, while here the public will be delighted to brighten up their cooking with Fairtrade herbs. Congratulations to Bart Spices for further adding yet more flavour to the Fairtrade range.'
