Spain’s regional government of Extremadura has approved a plan to fund a fresh promotion campaign this year for Cereza del Jerte’s Picota cherries in key export markets across Europe.
The authorities in the Spanish region have agreed to provide €130,900 for promotional activities that will take place in the UK, Belgium and Italy later this year, reports Spanish news agency EFE.
In conjunction with national export agency ICEX and Extremadura’s denomination of origin regulatory council Cereza del Jerte, the regional government will publicise Cereza del Jerte’s Picota variety through adverts in leading food sector trade magazines.
As well as this, the promotional campaign will aim to increase public awareness of the cherries in each of the countries through advertising in consumer magazines and point-of-sale product samplings.
