Evergreen Line has tripled its investment in Carrier Transicold's energy efficient PrimeLINE system by placing an order for 4,000 units, a move that it says will complement its enviornmental goals.
The Taiwan-based shipper notes that it is looking to reduce shipboard power generation needs and related emissions through the use of PrimeLINE, which, in turn, decreases the environmental impact of refrigerated container shipping.
PrimeLINE units now account for more than 20 per cent of the containers in Evergreen's refrigerated fleet, with most of its new 40-foot containers being used for fleet expansion, with some used to replace aging units.
'We congratulate Evergreen Line as its 6,000 PrimeLINE units are expected to
save enough energy over their operating life to eliminate more than 208,000 tonnes of
carbon emissions, relative to the industry average,' said David Appel, president of Carrier Transicold. 'That's equivalent to removing more than 2,900 cars from the road over the same period.'
