The EU and Member States have stated their commitment to meeting the Sustainable Development Goals adopted in September 2015, including a target to halve per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level by 2030, and reduce food losses along the food production and supply chains.
The EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste (FLW) aims to support all actors in defining measures needed to prevent food waste, sharing best practice and evaluating progress made over time.
The platform, which will meet at least twice a year, will bring together up to 70 organisations from the public and private sectors, including all EU national governments.
Its work will include developing a measuring framework for food waste, monitoring levels and progress made, implementing and applying EU legislation related to waste, facilitating food redistribution, conducting awareness campaigns, and working on technological and social innovations.
