Dutch organics specialist Eosta has launched a new campaign, dubbed ‘Make us Champions Too!’, to help improve conditions on farms in South Africa.
Through the campaign, consumers can directly support social projects by purchasing organic citrus fruits from Nature & More growers Emerald Acres, Groenheuwel Boerdery and Sun Valley in South Africa.
'During the World Cup the whole world is looking at South Africa,' says Annemarie Wenning of Emerald Acres. 'This gives us an opportunity to tell people about the problems and challenges facing our country, while at the same time showing that social responsibility is very important for all of us.'
For every kilo of ‘campaign fruit’ purchased, at least €0.01 will go directly to one of the three selected projects, Eosta stated.
Groenheuwel Boerdery will reportedly use the funds to construct a clubhouse for a new football field, as well as an 'outdoor canteen' for the workers to cook together.
Emerald Acres and Sun Valley, on the other hand, will use the additional funds to structurally improve and build new houses for their farm workers.
'We are proud that the campaign enables us to directly support the workers on the farms,' says Pieter de Keijzer, buyer of organic citrus fruits at Eosta. 'Furthermore it is a tremendous opportunity to promote organic South African citrus.'
According to Eosta, the campaign and the commitment to it will continue long after the World Cup has left the country.
