Dole Food Company has revealed that it has once again been handed the Supermarket News Category Excellence Award for the Produce Category, the third consecutive year that the US-based multinational has triumphed,

With the award, Dole Fresh Fruit and Dole Fresh Vegetables were recognised for efforts in tying into consumer trends with the introduction of the second phase of its salad blend re-imagining, and for marketing/promotions by developing multimedia programmes to further push banana sales.

'It is a tremendous honour to be recognised again for innovation in the category,' said Ronda Reed, vice-president of marketing at Dole Fresh Vegetables. 'This validates that the research that we are doing and the focus we are placing on hearing what consumers want and responding, is gaining traction in the marketplace.'

David Bright, vice-president of marketing for Dole Fresh Fruit, noted that, as a mature category, it was very difficult to move the sales needle on bananas.

'Showing consumers new ideas and recipes will truly help inspire them to use bananas more in cooking and outside of the typical breakfast and morning snack usage patterns,' he explained. 'We believe that it really is an innovative concept, and appreciate the recognition from Supermarket News and the industry.'
