Dole is upgrading its reefer containers in order to gain more detailed data insights and improve overall operational efficiency
As part of its continuous efforts to adapt to the changing demands of the reefer market, Dole Fresh Fruit Co has chosen to upgrade its fleet with Maersk Container Industry’s Star Cool 1.1, launched in September 2024, with an eye to operational efficiency and sustainability.
A key component of the deal is the transition to Sekstant telematics, which enhances the monitoring and management of Dole’s reefer containers with valuable OEM reefer telematics services.
“This upgrade provides Dole with more detailed data insights and remote-control functions, improving overall operational efficiency and container management,” MCI stated. “One example is the documentation of actual hour-by-hour power consumption by each reefer.”
”The integration of Star Cool 1.1 units with Sekstant Telematics represents a practical approach to improving operational efficiency while meeting environmental and market demands,” added Ana Lisette Anchia, equipment manager at Dole Tropical Products.
The Star Cool 1.1 is designed to operate on three refrigerants – R134a, R513a, and R1234yf – without the need for software or hardware modifications.
“This flexibility supports the use of low-GWP refrigerants and contributes to the longevity of the units in an industry that is continually adapting to new environmental standards,” MCI stated. “In the successful field trial conducted by Dole, in 2024, the Star Cool 1.1 demonstrated its reliability and efficiency in real-world conditions, further validating its performance and adaptability.”
“As the global shipping market evolves, the partnership between Dole and Star Cool highlights the importance of investing in reliable, efficient technology that can adapt to future industry shifts,” said Anchia.
