The Dole Nutrition Institute, a division of fresh produce giant Dole Food Company, has revealed its support for and participation in Food Day, a US-wide healthy eating campaign due to take place on 24 October this year.
Food Day is organised by the Centre for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) to urge consumers to 'Eat Real', with the aim of solving the country's food challenges and promoting healthy diets.
'Almost all Americans should be consuming much more fruit, vegetables, beans, and whole grains,' said CSPI executive director Michael Jacobson. 'So I hope consumers, producers, restaurants and supermarkets take advantage of Food Day and use it as an opportunity to change Americans' diets for the better.'
In its first year, Food Day aims to bring consumers together, with thousands of forums and celebrations from coast to coast aimed at promoting healthy diets and solving local communities' food problems.
Dole will be supporting Food Day via newsletter updates, a video promoting Food Day, a month-long banana 'Food Day' sticker campaign reaching 100m consumers, retailer partnerships, and a Food Day event at the Dole Research Lab at the North Carolina Research Campus.
'CSPI's Food Day fits perfectly with Dole's commitment to feed the world with knowledge – and some of the healthiest foods on earth,' said Jennifer Grossman, senior vice-president, Dole Nutrition Institute. 'We are honoured to be a part of this historic event.'
