Fruit supplier Dole Fresh UK has been confirmed as the first headline sponsor of the World Cancer Research Fund's (WCRF) Fruity Friday event, an annual campaign aimed at encouraging people in the UK to eat more fresh produce and raising awareness of the link between diet, physical activity and cancer prevention.

Fundraisers at WCRF are also calling on companies to hold events such as 'Go Bananas by dressing down in yellow day!' to help raise funds for charity on Fruity Friday, which takes place on 14 May.

'Fruity Friday is a really fun way to get the healthy message out there that eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables could reduce your risk of cancer,' said Teresa Nightingale, general manager at WCRF. 'And this year's Fruit Friday looks as though it's going to be bigger than ever with the contribution from Dole Fresh UK, and we are delighted they have agreed to get involved.

'Their involvement means the campaign can expand and grow from its exiting success,' she added. 'The link between the Fruity Friday campaign and Dole Fresh UK is a marriage made in heaven for us at WCRF. We are grateful for their support and look forward to seeing what the partnership will bring.'

Jean-Marie Graux, managing director at Dole Fresh UK said that the group, in conjunction with our parent company Compagnie Fruitiere, was delighted to be able to sponsor the campaign.

'We believe that this is a real opportunity for our business to support such a worthwhile cause and at the same time encourage the further consumption of fruit in the UK,' he said.
