Del Monte Miami Heat back to school event

In the US, Del Monte Fresh Produce has revealed that it supported the Miami Heat 'Back to School' event on Monday, 20 August, kicking off the 2012/13 school year by welcoming back the students and teachers of Orange Brook Elementary in Broward County.

Miami Heat player Norris Cole, Del Monte Fresh Produce staff, Office Depot, and other supporters distributed 900 sackpacks filled with school supplies as they entered the school early in the morning, while Del Monte distributed promotional material as mascot bananas took pictures with students and parents.

'It is important that we keep fruit top of mind and help teach children at a young age about the importance of eating healthy,' said Dennis Christou, vice-president of North American marketing at Del Monte Fresh Produce. 'As the Official Fresh Fruit of the Miami Heat, it only makes sense that we be involved with the community in these types of events, where we can reach the younger demographics, and get them eating healthy early!'
