After reaching commercial production volumes, marketing group Del Campo Supreme is now offering its t'mates-branded cocktail tomatoes in North America.
Del Campo debuted the fruit at last year's PMA Fresh Summit in the US, with the group having the exclusivity to grow and market the variety in North America.
The t'mates tomato was developed by seed group Enza Zaden, and is part of the Tomazur family of the fruit, and is said to be widely accepted in Europe having been extensively tested and consistently outperforming other cluster tomato varieties.
Known for a firm texture and improved shelf-life, they were voted Best Tomato on the Vine in Spain in 2012.
“In the tomato industry we became very good at growing tomatoes and we forgot about taste,' said Guillermo Martinez, general manager of Del Campo. 'Consumers told us they wanted great tomatoes that tasted like real tomatoes – and we know that t’mates answer that charge. We believe that high flavour tomatoes are a priority for continued category growth.”
t’mates have year-round availability and are packed in a recyclable cardboard container that highlights Del Campo’s social responsibility efforts, with the tagline 'Good People, Friendly Farming'.
“With consumers becoming more engaged with where their food comes from, how it’s grown and if it meets their needs for flavour and quality, the time is right for t’mates” Martinez added.
