Thewinning fruit was Dalinco, an organic, scab-resistant variety from hisNorth Brabant farm. “It is like biting into a piece of summer,” said one of the jury. Van den Elzen’s Red Topaz and Santana variety apples were also praised.
His fruit is marketed by Eosta through its Nature & More, Trace & Tell system which features photos of growers on individual fruit labels.
Van den Elzen concluded: “The quality ofmy apples is a result of the way I treat the soil, the plants and animals in my orchard. It's important to me that consumers can find out about that.”
