Coosemans Worldwide is cashing in on the craze for so-called superfoods by increasing availability of BrusselKale, the Brussels sprout-kale cross developed by Rock Garden Herbs. The variety, which was launched last November, is currently on sale in the East Coast and will soon be available in West Coast stores, the marketer said. It is grown on Coosemans’ organic farms in Florida and Mexico.
BrusselKale was developed using traditional breeding techniques to deliver a sprout-like product with a more subtle flavour and more versatility. According to Rock Garden, the product has a flavour that’s milder than either Brussels sprouts or kale and contains double the amount of vitamin B6 and vitamin C of Brussels sprouts. It is pre-washed, ready to prepare and comes in a microwaveable bag.
“You can microwave and serve it right from the bag, juice it directly from the package, eat it raw in a salad or boil, steam, blanch or roast it,” the company said.
