Cítricos Valencianos

Spanish citrus Protected Geographical Indicator (PGI) regulatory body Cítricos Valencianos and Auchan-owned buying group Zenalco have reached an agreement that could lead to up to 7,700 tonnes of certified citrus being sold in Alcampo and Sabeco outlets during the 2008/09 campaign.

Under the terms of the agreement, a forecast 4,900 tonnes of oranges and 2,800 of clementines could be sold in Auchan’s Alcampo supermarkets and Sabeco hypermarkets across Spain during the season, the groups said in a statement.

A spokesperson for Auchan expressed the retailer’s “satisfaction” over the deal, which he claimed was evidence that the company was delivering on its promise to offer fruit and vegetables of the highest quality.

IGP Cítricos Valencianos president Enrique Blasco said: “This agreement delivers strong backing to our work to bring our products to a greater number of homes.”

He added that the deal would also reinforce the sale of Valencian products across Auchan’s entire network of Alcampo and Sabeco stores in Spain.
