Chile’s blueberry and cherry export campaign to China is set to receive a major promotional boost ahead of the Chine New Year celebrations after a deal was signed to market fruit via China’s biggest online business-to-consumer shopping website, TMall.com.
In a joint announcement, Asoex, the Chilean Blueberry Committee, the Chilean Cherry Committee, ProChile and the Chilean Embassy in Beijing said the campaign, consisting of graphic material, videos and special offers, would run from November to January 2014.
Speaking at an event to mark the new campaign held at the Chilean embassy in Beijing on Monday, Luis Schmidt, Chile’s ambassador to China said: “Today’s launch is the result of a joint initiative of the public and private sectors. As a government, we are keen to enhance the trading possibilities for our exporters, and recognise their commitment to delivering a high quality, competitive product.”
Zhang Yong, TMall.com’s president, said because cherries and blueberries from Chile were so highly regarded for their quality and safety they would fit perfectly on the company’s website which sought to provide the best for is customers. “This is a fantastic alliance, especially as the Chinese New Year celebrations are just about to get underway, as these types of products are highly sought after at this time of year,” he said.
With a retail market share of 47.6 per cent TMall.com is China’s biggest online business to consumer trading platform and one of the most visited websites in the world.
