French retailer Carrefour has unveiled a new area entirely dedicated to organic products at its hypermarket store in Chambourcy, in the île-de-France region of north-central France.
The department, which is called Bio Experience, is apparently designed to make organic products more accessible to shoppers – not just literally but also as a concept – and encourage people to develop what the retailer describes as “healthier, more local and more responsible” consumer habits.
Within the 550m2 area, customers can browse six areas dedicated to organic products, including seasonal vegetables sold in bulk, a self-service fresh and traditional organic products section, and an expanded range of local produce.
Other features include: an improved bulk products area with grocery products, cereals, oils and household products, such as washing powder and soap; a non-food section for cooking and gardening; and an area for educational and themed events.
“The Bio Experience area has its own recognisable visual identity designed to showcase local and seasonal products on the shelves, as well as our Carrefour Bio brand and our Carrefour Quality Line products,” the retailer said in a statement. “More than 3,800 products are on sale in this new area, and our aim in creating it is to take the lead in broadening access to organic products.”
