As part of their attempt to support organic farming, French retail chains Champion and Carrefour Market last week added chicory to the Carrefour Agir Bio organic range, which was created in 2005.
This is the first own-brand range of organic chicory sold in France, according to French monthly Végétable. Champion and Carrefour Market have teamed up with Prymex – a chicory producer situated in Artois in northern France – which is in the process of converting all its farms to organic production.
The products from the new range will become available on 27 November in 1,025 Champion and Carrefour Market stores, packed in 300g bags.
Carrefour is currently responsible for 20 per cent of organic sales in France, according to Végétable, and offers almost 900 organic products, 250 of which are sold under the Carrefour Agir Bio brand.
