Camposol blueberries Expoalimentaria 2014 Peru

Peruvian fresh produce leader Camposol has announced that its blueberry offering for the 2014 campaign will hit European ports in week 37.

The group has revealed that it will export a total of 2,000 tonnes of the fruit this season, with 55 per cent heading to the US market, 25 per cent to Europe – particularly Germany and the UK – and around 15 per cent sent to Asia.

According to Camposol, a considerable amount of its marketing budget for the year will be dedicated to developing promotional activities for its blueberry brand.

In-store tastings for two large German retail chains will be coordinated and scheduled to begin in October, with the aim of introducing Camposol’s blueberry brand as the 'primary reference for quality and flavour'.

In the UK, meanwhile, Camposol will develop tasting panels in a bid to hone, with the help of the consumers, the positioning of Peruvian varieties (in terms of flavour) when compared to those coming from Argentina and Uruguay.

This benchmarking will serve as a guide for the introduction of the group's blueberries in the UK, and also as a guide for the future development of Camposol’s blueberry business, allowing it to potentially adapt the produce to meet the latest trends in international markets.

Camposol chief executive José Antonio Gomez will be speaking at the Eurofruit Congress Southern Hemisphere 2014, which takes place on 6-7 November in Lima, Peru. For more details, visit the official event website at eurofruitcongress.com/sh
