California Giant Berry Farms has announced in a statement that the company’s president and CEO Bill Moncovich yesterday received an award from the American Cancer Society.

The Society presented a special recognition award to Mr Moncovich for “recognition of individuals for exceptional achievement in their field of work, keeping in mind the adaptability of the effort for use by other Society groups”.

Mr Moncovich was recognized specifically for his efforts serving as chairman of the annual Spring Lamb Barbecue since 1973, and for his involvement and support of the ACS annual Relay for Life event in Watsonville.

Joan Roselle, director of Distinguished Giving for the American Cancer Society acknowledged Mr Moncovich’s commitment as an example of corporate philanthropy, which has led other Central Coast companies and their employees to support American Cancer Society events.

Ms Roselle presented Mr Moncovich with a commemorative plaque and copies of the 2008 annual report where he is also featured and recognized.

Rosie Menacho, Regional Relay for Life director also thanked Mr Moncovich and his staff for their strong support of the Relay for Life and for hosting the Relay for Life Mission Delivery tent at the event this year to be held in August.

She thanked Mr Moncovich and the entire staff for serving as the presenting sponsor each year at the Watsonville Relay for Life since the program's inception.
