Spain’s Andalusia region will have a strong presence at this week’s Biofach 2011 organic trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany, which it hopes will draw attention to its status as Europe’s largest organic production region, with more than 877,321ha.
Some 27 Andalusian companies will be present at the four-day event, which takes place from 16-19 February, including a number of organic fruit specialists.
The southern Spanish region’s minister for agriculture, Mabel Salinas, will be attending the trade fair on Thursday (17 February) to show support for the Andalusian companies’ bid to bring their products to an international audience.
In a separate development, Andalusian officials used the opportunity of last week’s Fruit Logistica 2011 exhibition in Berlin to discuss strategies for the greater promotion of the region’s fresh products in Germany.
Ana María Romero, from Andalusia’s department of agriculture, met with Agustín Velilla from the Spanish embassy in Germany and representatives from Andalusian export agency Extenda to review the region’s progress in the German market.
